Project Overview

For Kylie Jenner’s 2024 Halloween costume, inspired by Demi Moore’s film Striptease, LA Set Construction had the honor of fabricating the set for this tribute. Our client’s vision was to faithfully reenact one of the film’s most iconic scenes, requiring a sleek and stylish set with a dancer pole as the focal point.

To achieve this, we constructed a singular wall with a scenic paint finish and a securely installed dancer pole, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity. The final set provided the perfect backdrop for the tribute, blending Hollywood glamour with expert craftsmanship.

Planning & Design

Our client's primary goal was to capture the essence of the Striptease scene while maintaining a high-end, polished aesthetic. The most critical design challenge was the placement of the dancer pole. Given the high ceilings of the location, and the absence of a set ceiling, a truss system was selected to provide the necessary support while remaining discreetly out of the camera frame.

This required careful structural planning, ensuring that every detail—from material selection to color finishes—reflected the cinematic look while guaranteeing stability and safety.

Construction Process

Materials Used:

• Plywood – Used for the wall due to its durability and reliability.
• MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) – Crafted into 3D arch trim details for added dimension.
• Subfloor – Chosen for structural stability, critical for high-traffic photo shoots.
• Truss System – Installed to provide foundation and support for the dancer pole.
• Dancer Pole – A central requested prop, securely installed for performance use.
• Primer – Applied as a base coat to ensure proper paint adhesion.
• Paint – A gray color scheme with white accents for a scenic finish, complemented by gold stripes in the center and black-painted arches for contrast.

Building the Set

Wall Construction & Flooring

• Our carpenters constructed the singular wall measuring 16’ wide x 8’ high, using plywood for durability and longevity.
• A subfloor base was built to create a strong foundation, ensuring stability for movement on set.
• Black gloss marlite was installed over the subfloor to achieve a sleek, polished appearance.

Fabricating & Installing the Arches

• Two large full arches were cut from MDF and affixed to the wall for a structured look.
• Six half-arches (three left-facing and three right-facing) were precisely cut to frame the design.
• The cut arches were securely bonded to the wall using wood adhesive and reinforced for stability.

Dancer Pole & Truss System Installation

• The truss system was pre-assembled in preparation for dancer pole placement.
• The pole was installed securely, with reinforced anchoring to ensure performance safety.

Painting & Finishing Details

Surface Preparation:

1. Spackle Application – Filled any surface imperfections for a smooth, flawless finish.
2. Sanding – Excess spackle was sanded down to ensure a uniform, even surface.
3. Priming – A white primer coat was applied to enhance paint adhesion and create an even base.

Painting Process & Final Touches:

• The base color of the wall was painted in gray tones, with scenic painters adding depth and texture through splotching techniques.
• White accents were layered over the gray base to enhance the scenic effect.
• Seven vertical gold stripes were meticulously painted in the center of the wall, creating a luxurious visual contrast.
• The arches were painted black, standing out boldly against the textured background.
• A clear sealant was applied to protect the paint and ensure longevity, maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the set.

Final Execution & Client Satisfaction

Through careful planning, precision construction, and artistic detailing, LA Set Construction successfully brought this film-inspired tribute to life. The polished set, custom-designed dancer pole support, and seamless scenic finish created a visually striking and durable space for Kylie Jenner’s tribute shoot.
